Citipower is one of Victoria’s five electricity distributors and works in partnership with Powercor. Citipower is responsible for managing poles, wires, and equipment to deliver quality electricity to homes and businesses in Central and West Victoria and through out Melbourne.
The combined power network of Powercor and Citipower services over one million customers in Victoria. Individually, Citipower owns and manages an electricity network that services 310,000 customers in the central business district and inner suburbs of Melbourne. The electricity network makes up 157 km? and supplies electricity to some of the largest companies in Australia, such as Melbourne Park, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and the Victorian Arts Center.
Citipower regulates their distribution network with advanced software used to monitor electricity to provide a reliable, high-quality supply to customers and businesses.
Citipower’s distribution network is bordered by Port Phillip Bay, Toorak Road, and Balaclava Road to the south; the Yarra River, Moreland Road, and Dundas Street to the North; Warrigal Road to the east; and the Yarra River, Moonee Ponds Creek, and the Maribyrnong River to the west.
All electricity network charges are calculated including general service charges and network tariffs. A basic network tariff is made up of several separate charges:
- Distribution Tariff – Charged when electricity is delivered through the Citipower network.
- Transmission Tariff – Charged to SP Ausnet when electricity is transmitted through their high-voltage network.
- Mandatory Cost Recovery – Charged to fund Victoria’s Premium Feed-In-Tariff
Citipower Future Growth
Citipower invests millions of dollars on a yearly basis for the maintenance and development of their electricity distribution network. Citipower is constantly working to expand the size of their network, as well as the capacity of existing lines to ensure that all customers and businesses have safe and reliable access to an electricity supply.
Citipower’s main goal for the future is improving the reliability of their network. According to the Australian Energy Regulator’s annual comparative performance report with supporting studies of other distribution networks, Citipower was rated with the highest reliability of any urban electricity distribution network in Australia.
